Hospital executives and health care industry experts gathered in Washington, District of Columbia, Oct. 6-8 for the 2014 U.S. News & World Report Hospital of Tomorrow forum. Speakers and moderators provided plenty to discuss at the conference's breakout sessions, during which public policy, medicine, and data experts offered their insights into the challenges that hospitals will face in the future.
The conference's opening keynote session featured U.S. News & World Report Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Mortimer Zuckerman and Editor and Chief Content Officer Brian Kelly welcoming attendees and sponsors before Michael E. Porter, the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School, delivered a keynote speech about value-based health care delivery. Porter was followed by a panel discussion about navigating a new era in health care, during which Novant Health President and CEO Carl S. Armato; Virginia Mason Health System Chairman and CEO Dr. Gary S. Kaplan and Brigham and Women's Hospital President Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel joined moderator Brad Kimler, executive vice president at Fidelity Investments. Dr. Kaveh Safavi, global managing director for the health industry at Accenture, and Dr. Gregory Sorensen, president and CEO of Siemens Healthcare North America, also provided keynote remarks.
