Prevention

Until recently, glaucoma was not considered preventable. But a 2002 study of more than 1,600 people with elevated intraocular pressure suggested that IOP-lowering eyedrops may help delay or even prevent the onset of glaucoma.

If glaucoma does develop, regular eye examinations can help detect the disease in its early stages and reduce the likelihood of damage to the optic nerve.
