Depression

Prevention

There is no surefire way to prevent depression. Indeed, even those who are born into a happy and supportive family with no history of depression, experience no seriously traumatic life events, and are lucky enough not to suffer from a major medical illness may develop the disease.

Still, good mental health is fostered with many of the same strategies that promote good physical health. Eating right, exercising, getting enough rest, and nurturing satisfying relationships with friends, family members, and intimate partners can go a long way toward keeping depression at bay.
