Childproof Your Summer: Trampolines

Keep your kids safe without spoiling summer fun:

2. Jump with caution. Aerials on dry land can be dangerous, too. The trendy backyard trampoline bounced some 110,000 people into emergency rooms in 2006, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Most of the injuries to kids tend to be broken bones or dislocated joints caused by midair collisions, attempted stunts, falling or jumping off the trampoline, and falling onto the frame or springs. Only one person should jump at a time—on a trampoline whose frame is covered entirely with shock-absorbing padding and enclosed by a mesh wall to reduce the chances of falling off.
