A home in the mountains is starting to look better all the time. Because of global warming, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates a 1-foot rise in sea level along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts by 2050 and a most likely rise of 2 feet in the next century. At the same time, home insurers are pulling out of some coastal markets, warning that hurricanes, population spikes, and climate change could saddle them with devastating losses. Insurance giant Allstate Corp. has stopped writing homeowners policies in Louisiana, Florida, and coastal Texas and New York. All of which clouds that beachfront view.
