St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, N.Y.
Who We Are
St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center® is New York State’s only specialty-designated cardiac center, offering one of the leading cardiac care programs in the nation. Located in Roslyn, N.Y., on Long Island’s North Shore, St. Francis Hospital has been ranked among the best hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in heart and heart surgery, digestive disorders, and geriatrics. St. Francis Hospital performs more cardiac procedures than any other hospital in New York and has been consistently recognized for its high quality care. It is the busiest heart center in the Northeast.
Founded in 1922 by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, and a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHS), the Hospital is recognized as an innovator in the delivery of specialized cardiovascular services in an environment where excellence and compassion are emphasized. St. Francis also offers a superb program in non-cardiac surgery, including some of the most advanced technology and minimally invasive techniques available for vascular, prostate, ear-nose-throat (ENT), oncologic and orthopedic surgery. The Hospital has outstanding patient satisfaction ratings on both regional and national objective measures.
The DeMatteis Center for Cardiac Research and Education, St. Francis Hospital’s satellite campus in Greenvale, N.Y., is one of the few freestanding campuses in the U.S. dedicated to the prevention of heart disease. It is the site of community health courses and lectures, as well as the largest medically staffed cardiac fitness and rehabilitation program on Long Island. At the DeMatteis Center, a team of world-renowned investigators work with non-invasive imaging technology, including cardiac CT and 3-dimensional echocardiography systems, and the area’s first dedicated cardiac MRI and PET/CT programs to improve methods of diagnosing heart disease.
In 2008, St. Francis Hospital opened the Nancy and Frederick DeMatteis Pavilion, a 158,000 square-foot, high-tech facility that increased the Hospital’s available clinical space by 40 percent. The pavilion features the only high-definition operating rooms in the region. The 14 new ORs feature touch-screen technology as part of a video integration system that allows surgeons instant access to laboratory data as well as high quality diagnostic images such as MRIs and coronary artery angiograms during a procedure. It also enables doctors to get a 'second opinion', if necessary, from a colleague in another location, whether it is around the corner or around the world.
The pavilion marks the largest expansion in the Hospital’s history and features accommodations and a host of amenities designed to enhance patient comfort and care.
