Selected as one of three hospitals nationwide to offer the world's first self-contained, implantable artificial heart, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is a 610-bed academic medical center and the principal teaching hospital of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDNJ-RWJMS) in New Brunswick, NJ.
Robert Wood Johnson is an innovative leader in advancing state of the art care in medicine. Its centers of excellence include cardiovascular care from minimally invasive heart surgery to transplantation, cancer care and women's and children's care. The hospital is also a Level 1 Trauma Center and serves as a national resource in its groundbreaking approaches to emergency preparedness.
In addition, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is at the epicenter of a growing pediatric campus that provides the most comprehensive care for children in New Jersey. The nearby Child Health Institute of New Jersey at UMDNJ-RWJMS is a center for biomedical research and pediatric care, featuring an ambulatory care center, research laboratories and offices for faculty. Here, scientists, researchers and clinicians converge to study and treat diseases that threaten children. Next door is the new PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital, a rehabilitation hospital for children. The World's First Fully Implantable Artificial Heart
One of three hospitals in the country to offer the AbioCor, the world's first fully implantable artificial heart, RWJUH recently performed the first implantation of the device since it received FDA-approval. -
The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital (BMSCH) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
BMSCH features sub-specialists in a full range of pediatrics from pediatric surgery, urology, and cardiology to oncology, hematology, and pulmonology—all in a family-centered environment. -
Robotic Surgery
RWJUH offers minimally invasive surgical options using the da Vinci surgical robot. This approach is available for mitral valve repair, as well as treatment of prostate, gynecologic and colorectal cancers. -
Level One Trauma Center
The Level 1 Trauma Center at RWJUH is one of only three designated by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. A level 1 center is the highest designation a hospital can receive. -
Transplant Services
