Who We Are
Cook Children’s Health Care System is a not-for-profit, nationally recognized pediatric health care organization comprised of six entities—a Medical Center, Physician Network, Home Health company, Northeast Hospital, Health Plan and Health Foundation.
Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the integrated system has more than 60 primary and specialty care offices throughout north Texas. Its service region includes Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties, with an additional referral area encompassing nearly half the state.
Cook Children's traces its roots back to 1918, but throughout its continual change and robust growth, it still embraces an inspiring promise—to improve the health of every child in its region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury. To live up to this promise, Cook Children’s combines the art of caring with the use of leading technology and extraordinary collaboration to provide exceptional care for every child, every day.
Cook Children’s has over 60 locations that include specialty clinics, primary care offices, urgent care centers and two surgery centers to help us serve children throughout north Texas. We also have four neighborhood clinics placed in areas of the community that have a high concentration of low income families who may not otherwise have access to medical care. It is our goal to make sure those children not only get the treatment they need when they are sick, but also get preventative care like immunizations to help them stay healthy.
Prevention is a key emphasis in our promise. At Cook Children’s, we want to make sure the healthy kids in our community stay that way. An important aspect of prevention is, of course, education. We want to teach parents and adults in our community to protect the ones we hold dear—our children. Cook Children’s Community Health Outreach plays a leadership role in community education programs such as Safe Kids Tarrant County. Since its formation in 1992, Safe Kids Tarrant County has checked more than 4,000 car seats for correct installation and distributed 13,500 child safety seats. Last year alone, our Community Health Outreach distributed more than 300 life jackets to community centers or directly to children to help prevent incidents of drowning or near drowning.
Cook Children’s will continue to benefit our community by leading the monumental task of identifying children’s health priorities within our six-county region. The effort, known as the Community-wide Children’s Health Assessment and Planning Survey or CCHAPS, is the first known project of its kind in the country and will focus entirely on identifying children’s health needs so we can implement solutions. The information gained from CCHAPS will not only benefit Cook Children’s, but will also be a significant community resource that can help frame public policy, support expansion of children’s health services and drive fund-raising efforts on behalf of children.
For nearly 100 years Cook Children’s has been a dedicated member of our community. We are proud of our history and we take our responsibility to the children we serve very seriously. We believe each child deserves our love and comfort in the healing process. We place our patients' needs above our own and involve families in their child's care. We offer mutual respect, trust and honest communication to honor the uniqueness of each child and the cultural gifts of each family. We are an advocate for quality health care and ethical treatment of children in our society. We speak in a clear, strong voice for those not able to speak for themselves.
