About Children’s National Medical Center
Children’s National Medical Center is the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the Washington Metropolitan area, and is the only freestanding children’s hospital between Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norfolk, and Atlanta. Serving the nation’s children for more than 135 years, Children’s National is a proven leader in the development and application of innovative new treatments for childhood illness and injury.
As the nation’s children’s hospital, the components of Children’s National Medical Center include:
• Children’s Hospital, which features 283 beds, 54 of which are level III C NICU bassinets; a Level I pediatric trauma center that serves three states; and a critical care transfer program via ambulance, helicopter, and fixed-wing airplane
• Seven regional outpatient centers that provide specialty care throughout the area
• A primary care program that includes health centers within the District of Columbia and owned practices throughout the metropolitan area
• Children’s National Health Network with 400 affiliated pediatricians—the largest pediatric network in the area
• Children’s Research Institute, which is a leader in basic science, clinical and community research programs
• Other subsidiaries that focus on school health services, mobile health services, community partnerships, and safety campaigns.

Children's National Oncology Team
The team strives to cure cancer and minimize the side effects of treatment. Children’s National is one of only a handful in the country with access to Children’s Oncology Group’s Phase I trials and Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium protocols. -
Children's National Heart Institute
The Institute is an international leader in pediatric cardiac care. Our cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventionalists, cardiac intensivists, anesthesiologists, and fetal heart specialists care for a wide range of congenital heart disease. -
Children's National Neurosurgery Team
The team tackles complex cases using image-guided surgery, gamma knife, and minimally invasive approaches. With more than 100 years of combined experience, they have among the nation’s best outcomes in surgical treatments of brain tumors. -
Children's National Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is one of the region’s major neonatal referral centers and is the region’s only level III C, the highest distinction available by the AAP. The NICU is housed in new, state-of-the art facilities with private patient rooms. -
Children's National Pediatric Surgical Specialists
Pediatric surgical specialists perform nearly 15,000 operations each year. Children’s National guarantees anesthesia administered by a fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist around the clock. -
Children’s Research Institute
Children’s Research Institute is a top ranked pediatric research institution for overall National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for research. Principal investigators and physicians work side by side.
