Who We Are

The Children’s Hospital, a nationally-ranked, non-profit hospital for children, has both defined and delivered pediatric healthcare excellence for more than 100 years. Founded in 1908, The Children’s Hospital is a leading hospital and pediatric healthcare network entirely devoted to the health and well-being of children. Continually recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding hospitals, The Children’s Hospital is known both for nationally and internationally recognized medical, research and education programs, as well as the full spectrum of everyday care for kids throughout Colorado, surrounding states, across the country and around the world. With more than 1,000 healthcare professionals representing the full spectrum of pediatric specialties, The Children’s Hospital Network of Care includes its main campus, fourteen Children’s Care Centers and more than 400 outreach clinics. As the only pediatric-dedicated level I trauma center in a seven-state region, The Children's Hospital's safety and injury prevention outreach serves a diverse population.

The Children’s Hospital is a focal point of leading-edge pediatric research and sets a national standard for pediatric nurse and physician education. The hospital’s campus is affiliated with and adjacent to the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. This proximity positions The Children’s Hospital at the center of medical research in the Rocky Mountain region and facilitates development and delivery of the latest and most effective pediatric treatments. The hospital and its affiliates at the University are responsible for virtually all of the pediatric research published in the Rocky Mountain region in the past decade, as well as several internationally recognized medical milestones, including the discovery of toxic shock syndrome and the development of new pediatric heart surgery techniques now used around the world. The Children’s Hospital physicians staff the University’s department of pediatrics. Ranked as one of the nation's top ten best pediatric hospitals, The Children's Hospital made U.S. News and World Report's distinguished Honor Roll.

The Children’s Hospital was the first freestanding pediatric facility in the nation to implement fully-integrated Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and is among the first to extend this shared technology to community physicians and partner hospitals. As a powerful advocate for child health legislative and policy initiatives, The Children’s Hospital has played a major role in promoting the cause of children’s health at the local, state and federal levels.

Continuing its century-long tradition of pediatric excellence, The Children’s Hospital moved to its new campus location at the eastern edge of Denver in the fall of 2007. The new Children’s Hospital, the crown jewel of pediatric care in the seven-county Denver Metro region and the Rocky Mountain west, is designed to provide the most healing environment for patients, families and caregivers. From noise-reduction technology to healing color therapy and views of nature, every detail of The Children's Hospital was built on evidence-based design and construction to help kids heal faster and reduce stress on the whole family. With a wide array of health promoting amenities, our 294-bed facility offers private rooms (30 semi-private rooms in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) with pull out beds for parents and family, sound-absorbing floors and ceilings, the absence of overhead paging, and 24-hour room service. Each patient floor offers a lounge area with televisions, computers, kitchenettes, beverage machines and laundry facilities. Additionally, a multi-service concierge is available for the convenience of families, visitors and staff.

Built into the design are youthful and calming color patterns to help with wayfinding, original photography by renowned photographer John Fielder, a teen lounge with state of the art sound and visual systems, and the dramatic, welcoming Boettcher Atrium anchored by a four-story glass elevator tower etched with aspen trees. The entire facility is bathed in the natural light of Colorado sunshine and the colors of the Rocky Mountain landscape.
