Who We Are

For more than 120 years, Children’s Hospital of Michigan has been dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to children and adolescents in a caring, efficient and family-centered environment. A proud member of the Detroit Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Michigan is the first and largest children’s hospital in the state. This 228-bed facility has an international reputation in pediatric medicine, surgery, and research, training more pediatricians than any other facility in Michigan.

Children’s Hospital of Michigan engages in groundbreaking research that has long shaped the science of pediatric medicine. Children’s is ranked as one of America’s best hospitals for children in cancer, heart and heart surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, and urology by U.S.News & World Report, and it is among the best 25 children’s hospitals by Parents Magazine. It is also a nationally recognized Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, a Top Hospital for patient safety and quality practices by the Leapfrog Group, and a Top Hospital in pediatrics by Hour Detroit magazine.

Services and Special Capabilities

  • Cardiology
    A full range of advanced cardiac services for newborns, infants, children and adolescents with congenital or acquired heart disease and for adults with congenital heart disease.
  • Cardiovascular Surgery
    Children’s Hospital of Michigan is known for its state of the art approach to complex congenital heart disease. Children's Hospital performs more pediatric heart transplants than any other hospital in Michigan.
  • Gastroenterology
    The Division of Gastroenterology offers a full range of investigative services in addition to consultations. The gastroenterology division uses state of the art technology for procedures.
  • Hematology and Oncology
    The Division of Hematology/Oncology at Children’s Hospital is a national and international leader in the field. Over the years, the program has made major contributions to the understanding and treatment of pediatric blood diseases and cancer.
  • Imaging
    Using advanced imaging technologies and kid-friendly protocols, Children’s is home to Michigan’s top pediatric imaging center. The program’s special pediatric imaging equipment and protocols minimize radiation exposure to children.
  • Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine
    The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a major referral center for the treatment of high-risk newborns and infants. The unit provides Michigan’s highest level of neonatal care, with most patient transfers coming from other Level III NICUs.
  • Neurology
    Home to one of the world’s only pediatric PET centers and some of the nation’s leading authorities on pediatric neurological diseases, the department of neurology is a world-class program providing expert neurological care.
  • Neurosurgery
    The department specializes in the evaluation and surgical treatment of infants, children and adolescents with neurological disorders and injuries.
  • Orthopedics
    The state of the art orthopedic center's broad, collaborative team is committed to providing excellence in patient care for traumatic, reconstructive, degenerative, congenital and sports-related conditions that may require surgical intervention.
  • Urology
    Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Urology Department specializes in the management of fetal and congenital anomalies of the urinary tract and genitalia, including diagnostic imaging, uridynamic studies, and medical and surgical therapies.
