On June 1, General Motors announced a plan to reduce its pension liability by an

expected 26 Billion dollars. The GM plan provides select U.S. salaried retirees a lump-

sum payment offer and other retirees with a continued monthly pension payment. This

will be a complex decision-making process and the advice of a qualified financial advisor

is suggested. For a free white paper and information on the General Motors (NYSE:GM)

Pension Buyout visit http://www.gm-pension-buyout.com The decision deadline has been

set for July 20, 2012.

Not at all surprising findings in this study!

And it's not just cancer of course...

I'm a past President of the Well Spouse™ Association, http://wellspouse.org and plenty of our members are or, as I was, have been in this position.

The spousal caregiver often has the added burden that they are the sole breadwinner. The study did not look at the relative contribution to the family budget that the patient (ill spouse) and the caregiver (well spouse) made; but I would bet that in nearly all such marriages sooner or later end up as one-income partnerships.

Indeed, many spousal caregivers quit their job to look after their partner, to help and because they cannot afford to hire help to do it while they are at work.
