In the late 1980s a prominent orthopedic surgeon in California conducted a study on the effectiveness of barriers such as Latex gloves against the HIV virus. She stated, in a subsequent published paper...using a Latex glove as a barrier against HIV is like hiding behind a tennis net to protect from someone shooting at you with a BB gun. I can't remember the exact quote, but it was shocking...something like: the HIV virus is fifty times smaller than the "pores" in a Latex glove. I know that [clap] is a bacteria, and is therefore many times larger than a virus, but even so...people must protect themselves, or else...

You can blame much of the problem with antibiotics on the fat and lazy West, where ignorant patients demand doctors prescribe antibiotics for everything. Doctors get demands from patients for a-biotics, even for things like the flu (a virus). Patients then decide they know better than the prescription, so as soon as they feel better, they stop treatment, ensuring the surviving bacteria are stronger bacteria. As if that weren't bad enough, some fools then share their remaining pills with people who don't feel well, ensuring more drug-resistant bacteria are bred. And here we are-a world full of people catching VD, which should be easy as hell to prevent, and they've made it stronger and more virulent. We did it to ourselves.

Venereal Disease, in the 21st century, is ridiculous. So easy to detect, treat, and prevent and understood for centuries and still so all-pervasive.

How pathetic.

When I was in Chu-Lai Vietnam (1968) the penicillin that was suppose to be destoyed because it was passed the expiration date. Was sold by some of the medics to the black market (a lot of $$ was made by a few guys before they rotated home.

I wonder if this activity has duplicated itself many times over since then - which may be one of the causes of this problem

"Gonorrhea can be prevented through safe sex practices."

Really? But other venereal diseases, like herpes and HPV cannot. And even "safe sex" is a misnomer...it's really "safer sex," with no guarantees of safety whatsoever. Stop lying to people about the miraculous wonders of condoms: their success in preventing transmission of disease is greatly overrated.

The best treatment, a simple one, is to encourage everyone to have one spouse, and be faithful to only him or her.
