Apparently the point of this article is that vitamin d, a known cancer presenter, is necessary to proper health unless you derive your vitamin d from genetically modified and abundantly laden with synthetic hormone dairy products.

Unfortunately skin cancer rates have only increased since the release of sunblock. Horribly researched article, unfortunately, the native motive is carrying sound. When your trying to bs, expect it in return!

Any melanoma involves deep excisions, probably severe scarring. Melanoma Research Foundation publishes the facts on this tenacious, aggressive, deadly cancer and the risks of tanning beds. Survival rates for metastasized melanoma are low. Treatments are brutal. Watching a son, father of 2 little boys, go through IL-2 treatments at NCI-NIH for 3 months was frightening. Dr Steven A Rosenberg, world renown in melanoma research and development, saved our son. Most others were not as lucky. This is not an experience or skin cancer to be taken lightly. Stay out of the sun and the tanning beds which can become addictive.

Staying indoors all the time is also bad. People need sunlight. Everything in moderation.

By the way, check the map (link below) from the CDC on melanoma rates. Notice that melanoma rates are pretty evenly spread across the US. In other words, states where people tan a lot (coastal and southern states) don't necessarily have higher rates. I think there's a lot more than just the sun involved in this equation.

People have been out under the sun since the beginning of time. It was tens of thousands of years into human history before there even was such a thing as "indoors". Kids play, people swim, tourists go the beach. The sun isn't the enemy.

Just more FUD.

Everyone should try to have about 15 minutes of direct sun exposure per day. Avoid burns by limitting exposure but don't lather on sun block. The 71% who believe sun exposure is beneficial are correct and this seems to be a poorly researched article.

As the Greeks knew, everything in moderation. Humans need Vitamin D. Why did our skin turn white while migrating away from the equator???

Do you really expect anyone to listen or care anymore when you tell them something can cause cancer. We are constantly told that everything causes cancer. You would think that health blogs and cable news were fined if they didn't say cancer five times a day. Raising awareness is no different from fear mongering and people learn to tune it out.

i worked for a company 20 years ago that was importing tanning beds from sweden. i did some research and discovered that their claim of being "safe" was a blatant lie. there were 5 beds available for employees to use. after warning some friends at work i was fired.

such a corrupt industry.

Survival of the fittest needs to be reinstated back int America. We have limited resources so if someone is stupid well we can not save everyone. Less people to consume planet resources.

This is a very big part of the US healthcare situation. People do dumb things like this to their health, then expect others (via insurance) to pay for their dumbness. Obesity, smoking, sugar consumption, lack of exercise are also contributors. There should be incentives and disincentives - but please, not by government!
