Please note that the AVMA does NOT "endorse" any breed of dog as "generally safe with children." ANY dog, regardless of breed, can bite. It is not safe to assume that a dog of a certain breed will or will not bite, regardless of that breed's reputation.
NEVER leave small children alone with dogs, regardless of the breed.

In a few studies with GSDs and ESSs, females spayed young are more likely to display social aggression. Be sure to discuss with your vet and contact a veterinary behaviorist if your vet is not familiar with these issues.
