I recall classmates playing this when I was in 8th grade (just by using hands). For a child, this game is both intriguing and seems stupid, but the correlations between this and other unhealthy choices is not as clear to me. As a child I was not aware of the damage this game would cause. Perhaps a simple explanation from a teacher would be a useful prevention method

I think parents should talk about this activity with their children just like they talk to them about drungs and sex.

This is nothing new. Choking during sex stated several years ago sometime with death as the result. It's a good thing that in our country we discourage sex education.

Wow. If I had had parents who subjected me to random searches, I wouldn't have been at home, and I certainly wouldn't have talked to them about anything.

Enlightened parenting this is not.
