(HealthDay News) -- Celiac disease is caused by an intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and many other foods.
The National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse says potential complications and symptoms of celiac disease include:
- Poor digestion.
- Pain in the joints or bones, or osteoporosis.
- Iron-deficiency anemia.
- Fatigue, anxiety or depression.
- A tingling sensation or numbness in the hands.
- Seizures.
- A itchy rash.
- Canker sores.
- Fertility problems, including miscarriage or irregular menstrual cycles.
