This video covers the breast feeding dilemma that occurred at Target in a quite humorous manner, but offers some good insight – how that’s an issue, but fat, hairy men walking around shirtless is not? Worth a watch for sure.

The very small numbers make it difficult to make any valid conclusions

As a RN IBCLC with 34 years of experience working with new mothers in the setting of NICU and Mother Baby who has worked as an LC for 12 years in the hospital setting I have concluded that the majority of women enter the breastfeeding world without the knowledge base needed to be successful. At best they have attended a 1-2 hour breastfeeding class. In those classes breastfeeding basics are taught.

As the culture changes to encourage the breastfeeding lifestyle for the first year of a baby's life maybe more couples will make decisions in the years before they have a baby which will help the breastfeeding mother be able to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months of her baby's life.

What a gift that would be for the baby.

On a personal note: I breastfed four children between 12 and 14 months. I remember stocking up on toothpaste, paper products, light bulbs, Christmas presents, and groceries to last us several months so that I could take 3-6 months off with each one. It took planning and prioritizing before baby came. Promoting the breastfeeding lifestyle would help decrease the number of mother's who say..."this is too hard."

36 women is not 'many'. How about asking thousands and then get back to us on this?
