Once again, yet another study demonstrates the importance of PSA screening. Equally important is determining who actually needs treatment for the prostate cancer found. Fortunately many men do not need treatment because of insignificant prostate cancer. We have the ability to differentiate significant from insignificant cancer with good reliability. The key is treating those that need it and observing those that don't. The key is not hiding our heads in the sand and ignoring PSA because it is not perfect. As this study shows, such irresponsible action can be deadly.
