As pediatricians we know that patients have been advise not to prescribe OTC cough medications. However in many of the prescribe ones, we are told to use them as recommended by pediatricians. We do not have any dosages recommendations by the FDA for them. Where could we obtain such information? Are we also advice not to use them? Is it contraindicated before 2y/0 as advices by FDA or 6 or 12y/0 ???? Please give us more specific guidelines to be able to help our patients. I personally understand that this cough meds OTC or prescribed have no utility and lots of side effects.

Thanks
