If they consume their cigarettes as designed, smokers ensure themselves of smelling bad, being shunned in polite society, and dying early and in pain after an unhealthy life.
That's one strong narcotic leading smokers to make these poor choices! Surely no-one would inflict these things upon themselves of their own free will?
