To the person who labels themselves sophisticated your beliefs are based on delusion and nonsense.
In reality life can not exist without a brain. Three to six cells do not even have a nervous system.
You are an immoral fascist. You and others like you will not stop Scientific progress. Based on your stupidity. You are barbaric.
You are no better than the Iranian government. You do not speak for any God. You speak only for stupidity.
You comments are actually hilarious to those of us who comprehend Science.
Morally you should be prevented from any benefits Stem Cell research achieves.
May you reap what you sow.

Three to six cells have no nervous and are not sentient. They are not human life. They have no feelings.
The fascist who would prevent research with the potential to cure suffering humans are immoral.
They will not win this research will go on all over the world.
Stopping any research here hurts America.
It is unbelievable that in the twenty first century these morons still believe in this nonsense.
America is a democracy people have the write to practice any religion. No religion has the right to dictate to us all or to the scientific community.

First off, I understand how the country works. I'm saying it's a BROKEN system. This system was developed to give power to the people and to have checks and balances on the people in power and it no longer does either well.
Amazingly Ignorant displayed that he is just that. "The judge said no, you can't do that, it's a violation of the law." This is by no means case closed. If you weren't so busy being condescending, you might realize that this judge also said that the way we, as a country, have been operating since 2001 is against the law. You may have also heard that there is an appeals process and one judicial ruling is not CASE CLOSED. For you I guess the process goes like this: one ignorant judge makes a decision... MIND CLOSED.
Oh and the other argument about not sacrificing one life for another at least has some moral ground, but since I know some scientists who work with stem cells, I can tell you that is not what is happening. Scientists are not some cold evil humans only focused on self interested pursuits. They are, in my experience, greatly educated, intelligent, and compassionate people. Stem cell researchers do not have any influence in abortion choices, that is and should remain a seperate debate, but while the practice is in place, why should we deny our scientists th opportunity to make seemingly miraculous advancements in medicine?

We are headed backward when we choose to engage in barbaric practices like disregarding a living organism. We need not sacrifice one life for another when there are alternatives and they should be given a fair opportunity to prove fruitful. I am sick of politics being the sole source of our measure of right and wrong. I am not appealing from a religious stance either. We are human beings and are supposed to be equipped with the ability to evaluate and make sound moral judgements and decisions. In this case, it appears that many regard an embryo as a "thing" that people are entitled to manipulate to its destruction. The decision is based upon whether or not people regard that "thing" as the beginning of life. Herein lies the dilemma therefore. Two thoughts cannot occupy the mind at a single time, and the attitudes cannot consequently be dependent solely on a single element, but on the combined decisions regarding when life begins (not outside but inside a human being) and whether it is then "ok" to kill it for the sake of another living individual. And if it is not the beginning of life, then what is an embryo actually? Is there an accurate definition? And if the response is that it is just a group of cells, then we may as well legalize murder in general, because isn't that what we all essentially are? We can then justify taking one life for another and the current crime of murder as we now know it should be stricken. Just some thoughts... thanks for "listening."

Wow John, you display an amazing ignorance of how our democratic republic works. Let me spell it out for you: The legislative branch (Congress) makes the laws. The executive branch (President) implements/enforces the laws. The judicial branch (Courts/Judges) interprets the laws.
In this case Congress made a law that said the government couldn't fund research that harms human embryos. Obama directed his departments to fund research that harmed human embryos. The judge said no, you can't do that - it's a violation of the law. CASE CLOSED!!
Obama does not make law, and he is not above the law. He must follow the law just like everyone else. If he doesn't like a particular law he should work with Congress to get it changed, not ignore it and break it.
These are not difficult concepts to understand...hopefully you have a full understanding of them now and will stop whining. If not, please go study the US Constitution for further elucidation.

Our court system is almost as bad as our congress. Judges obstructing scientific advancement, allowing corporate political contributions, reversing order to stop NEW drilling during the worst oil spill ever. What the heck is wrong with our system? None of these judicial decisions are honorable, and frankly, they are representative of the decline of our society. The comments I have read here are complicit without being infomed. Why should one judge have the power to stop, not only our elected president, but also a consensus of great minds. The greatest thing about our system is its ability to change, so why are we trying so hard to go backwards instead of moving forward. We have an antiquated education system, have been economically in decline for thirty years (if you're middle class), and now we are halting modern medical research? QUESTION AUTHORITY!

Judge Lambeth cited existing, valid legislation as the basis for his ruling. Obama and his crew have no legal leg on which to stand. He does not get to decide what is "right". As for Cheryl wanting young people to take over ...we live in the 21st century, not the 20th. Anyway, I guess following the law is just an old fashioned idea to her.
Jimof TX4:19PM August 25, 2010
Cheryl, can you explain to me how blocking outrageously expensive spending bills that will further increase the deficit is costing us money? And suggesting getting rid of all of "all the old people" is just plain ignorant. Don't you think that being able to draw on a lifetime on knowledge and wisdom can be helpful. Some of the most ignorant people I have ever know were overly educated college grads who were out in the real world for the first time and thought they knew everything. I know, I was one of them.
Johnof TX2:49PM August 25, 2010
The public does not know all the information as to why they stopped "expansion" stem cell research. I think it is a good thing until the scientist have time to consider what EXPANSION maybe bad. There is bad and good research.
gloriaof DC1:04PM August 25, 2010
We need to get rid of all the old people in the senate and congress... We need young people with 20th century ideas. I've said what i had to say and thats that...
