Shingles is a torment, excruciating painful and every person should get this vaccine.

I am 50 year old female, in excellent health, practice yoga, meditation and eat correctly.

I was under some stress because my mother had a stroke and lo and behold, I developed intolerable pain on my left shin, that spread to my knee and then up to my buttocks. I thought I had sciatica. The pain lasted 7 days and then I noticed a blister on my thigh and two days later several more blisters on my left interior shin. Through internet research, I self diagnosed shingles since I have no medical insurance. A local clinic presciribed an anti-viral medicine, acyclovir 800 mg, which I took for 7 days. The local Rite Aid pharmacy cut my prescription price to $8.97 because I have no insurance. Please, if you get shingles, go get the anti-viral. My pain was substantially reduced immediately. I am just learning how the FDA has recognized shingles can affect persons in any age group. The vaccine should be a mandated federally approved vaccine. As of now, you have to pay for the vaccine which is around $200.00.

I am 59 years of age, and was recently hospitalized with Shingles in my mouth for 5 days, and out of work for over a month. I have never been so sick in my life. Without the slightest hesitation, I would recommend that everyone get the vaccine.

My comment concerning the shingles vaccine-Zostavax, is that the cost of it so high, that the only ones able to afford it are the rich. You go to a doctor now days-2011, and the first thing they look as is the insurance you have. If the insurance isn't one that carries a name such as (for example) AARP, even though you still have Medicare, you don't get acceptable medical treatment. So therefore only the symptoms are teated, and not the problem itself. The prescription(s) for "shingles" is sooo expensive a person cannot afford to even buy the prescription, and the pharmacy also tells you there is NO generic available either. When you mendion it to your doctor, they then the doctor tells you they have no samples availablein their office either, and the doctors doesn't even bother to tell their patient(s) that there is a vaccine isn even available. We know that shingles has been around for a long time and this kind of medical treatment is just not accetable.
