Statistics can say anything depending on how you ask the question. Most people don't even know enough about what an embryo is to answer that question correctly. did you inform them? Show me the survey and I'll show you all the holes in it.

The link this article provides does take you to an obesity poll; however on that website if you type stem cell research in the search box, it will take you to the support for stem cell research poll findings. (human error placing the link???) Here is the site address I found when I searched. http://www.harrisinteractive.com/NewsRoom/HarrisPolls/tabid/447/mid/1508/articleId/579/ctl/ReadCustom%20Default/Default.aspx

Do the research people. Embryonic stem cells are a one way ticket nowhere. Adult stem cells aren't unethical and they actually work. Embryonic stem cells very often become cancer. Do a youtube search on Dr. Oz and embryonic stem cells.

It's not worth it to waste our money on this pseudoscience!

I just attempted to use the link embedded in this article's sentence "Read more about the poll's findings and methodology at Harris Interactive." What I got was a description of another poll about perceptions of obesity; and the section about that "interactive" poll's methodology doesn't give me much confidence that these findings are scientifically valid.

The 2008 Republican platform contained a pledge to ban all embryonic stem cell research, public or private.

As the father of a paralyzed young man, Roman Reed,I strongly support embryonic stem cell research. In California, a law named after my son provided initial funding for the research now going to human trials through Geron.

Should my son's hopes of walking be denied for political reasons?

I was starting to lose hope for humanity, but I guess there aren't as many nutjobs out there as I thought.

Dr. James Sherley, the scientist behind the ES cell lawsuit, has written an opinion piece arguing several 'facts' that are at odds with the opinions of most Americans as illustrated by your poll. See discussion here: http://www.ipscell.com
