I would rather pay out of pocket than pay a for-profit-insurance-carrier. But I would willingly pay a tax - that all working class pays - so that EVERYONE could be covered. The ACA doesn't achieve this. It doesn't contain cost. It doesn't prevent the insurance carriers from pricing me out of the market, nor does it prevent bankruptcy due to medical expenses.
