This is not only horrible to begin with, but to think that they will still use these eggs after being pasteurized because the bacteria will be dead - worse and even more gross. Thankfully we have not had any eggs lately but I will be making sure we stay on top of our Vidazorb probiotics to help boost our immunities! I just can not believe these will still be used.

For generations, people ate food produced locally. Many grew their own. Currently, many farmers advocate the return of the practice. Small farmers have been squeezed out by "agri-business" giants who cut lots of corners for profit. They are the monsters who mistreat the animals that become our food.

I believe that small farming is still the best alternative. We don't need to sterilize everything into non-nutritional sludge just so that agri-business can stay in business. Small farmers fed the country till "bigger is better" became popular. If you know the people who are supplying your food, it follows that you will know more about their practices. You won't buy from neighbor farmers who produce an inferior product or mistreat their animals. (Did you know that stressed animals produce stressed meat?)

We may love strawberries all year, but we don't need them all year. They'll become all the more delicious as we anticipate their return. Mass produced strawberries really don't have much flavor. We can wait for seasonal food, instead of demanding things that must be sent from far away.

Smaller, local, organic, sustainable, free range, gmo free, humane must be the words we choose when choosing what we eat. What's on our grocery shelves today may be killing us.

Socialism is a new hot-button word that people on extreme sides of the spectrum like to renounce. Just like people will use the word fascism. In effect, both may be right. That in choosing the "least of two evils," we've mixed the two most hideous types of government, where millions have died and many more imprisoned or enslaved under the governing party. The test really is in our discussions, that we don't use a method of tyranny in our arguments. As soon as we begin to use hot-button words like socialism and fascism, which our government may approach in some ways, we fail to address the simple fact of the matter; we've cut down the argument to base insults like "bleeding heart" or "baby killer" and haven't gotten any closer to solving the issues completely.

The Facts:

1. High density factory farming, especially when cutting corners, produces diseases such as salmonella, mad cow, swine flu, etc.

2. Adam Smith, in The Wealth of Nations, says the nature of capitalism is to cut corners -- that the machines and methods of production are created through the human tendency to get more out of their work in less time. i.e. the machine does the human's work.

3. Companies would rather separate and deny any instances of disease from their products, rather than admit any fault. For some reason, it costs less that way. If we want to avoid these types of outbreaks, and not let some people die meaninglessly, there must be some oversight that they don't cut too many costs.

4. The oversight is sometimes corrupt and inefficient. Just as we've heard in the story of the Materials Management Service. They can be bought, to the point of not doing their jobs.

5. Both sides of the debate have their flaws. If you disagree with this status quo, then something must be done that isn't drawing lines in the sand. Otherwise, it might never get done.

Some sort of direct involvement with the government needs to take place. People for the past 9 years have felt that they have no hold or say in the government and that it runs away once elections are over. I say we add a fourth branch to the government called "The People," we rent out sports stadiums and have massive brainstorming sessions where we can be heard. And it will be the only free branch of the government because advertising will pay for everything, since stadiums are littered with the stuff. Just an idea. No?

I am sorry, and maybe I am an evil capitalist, but I would like to know what the cost would be to poor families if every single animal product followed the animal rights movements requirements for treatment of animals. Here in the United States we have the safest and most plentiful food supplies in the world. Our PETA friends, while trying to do right by the animals, would change the way we produce our food and due to this increase the cost and decrease the supply of food to Americans. If your prefere free range eggs, buy free range eggs. Do not demonize the economic system that has brought more prosperity to this nation than any in the past... look at the x soviet union if you want to know what the alternative is like.

When you see the deplorable conditions these chickens are kept in,

as the result of factory farming, it is no wonder that we have

diseases spreading so quickly. Chickens are treated extremely

cruel. Factory farm producers have absolutely no conscience about what they subject them to. Animals were never meant to be confined

in such a shameful way. When you go to the store to buy eggs, be sure they come from "free range farms" only! Demand it!

We all will die eventually, but would you rather be able to move

about freely or subjected to an enclosure barely the size of

your own body for your entire existence. Just because they are

farm animals, they should be treated humanely and when the time

comes, killed humanely. They should be treated with the same

respect you would treat your own pets.

Remember that government is evil and capitalism can police itself so there's no need for government inspection. Just trust the corporations that bring you the franken-food. They wouldn't try to hurt you. What's good for Monsanto is good for the nation.

One fruit of the great Republican/taxpayer revolt has been much fewer regulations and inspectors. Just buyer beware.

Maybe government might be good for something.
