How wonderful it will be when genetic diseases, detected in utero, can be taken from the gene pool, one by one, and finally be eradicated. Yes, I mean by abortion. Surely the helpful mutations are obvious, as are those that cripple and deform. If I had twisted limbs, from birth, that caused pain and made it impossible to walk freely, I would wish that particular gene mix had been eradicated before I came along. If I were in terrible condition, I expect I would be able to wish I had never been born. We must insist that Congress fund these experiments. Of course, it is based on the old dictum, Shutting the barn door BEFORE animals get out.
