Stelara Approved for Psoriasis

"I suspect the side effects to be much worse than psoriasis itself." Spoken like someone who hasn't suffered truly dibilitating psoriasis. It can be a whole lot more than flaky, itchy skin. For those who have severe forms, the promise of this drug brings hope for life-changing improvement. I've gladly endured side effects of other medications for even temporary relief, and I'm willing to do it again if it brings can give me my life back.

Stelara is a so-called "biologic", i.e. genetically modified protein blocking the production of some immune proteins. Long-term effects are not known (only about 3 years of testing has been done) but I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole as I suspect the side effects to be much worse than psoriasis itself.
