#1 No one ever addresses the fact that nicotine is used to self medicate, so find out what needs to be treated and treat that. Ususally it is poor nutrition.
#2 Nicotine is harder to get off of than probably all other drugs. Where is the help instead of the condemnation?
#3 Forget the flavors, what about the 200 additives the cigarette manufacturers put in them?

well the government is retarded who gives a rats ass who's smokin or not. People today hate them selves so much so they have to target others so they forget how fat they are etc. Cigarettes are an appetite suppressant and probably will not kill you as fast over eating like a pig.. There should be a tax on those 1000 cal hamburgers. Second the ban on flavored cigarettes is a joke the variety targets all kinds of people not kids. Why don't they do more to regulate dipping tobacco which seems to becoming increasingly popular and it comes in all sorts of flavors and is taxed much less but contains much more nicotine depending on the brand. I live in Washington state it cost me 10 bucks to get the pleasure of Newport its ridiculous. Besides smoking was a big reason why this country ever prospered selling all that tobacco made us rich and now the stupid dorks in WA DC and most state gov'ts think its there job to protect us from something we clearly know is bad and possibly not gives 2 shits either.

A compassionate government that really cares about its people naturally is going to guarantee revenues for evil tobacco manufacturers and then gradually ratchet up taxes on an already maligned and self-loathing compliant minority and happily milk them of every penny they've got while weeping crocodile tears for the children and raking in more money than big tobacco from those poor tobacco addicts and unpersuaded diehard smokers. WA state, my state, loves me, and at midnight another victory for kids and puppies and me, another dollar a pack, and when I triumph again and get to fund those get tough on smuggling and tax avoidance because weepy WA politicians are being robbed of their cut, the love is frankly stifling.
So, for being so very brave and good and compassionate I, finally cured of any delusions about faith in my government and consent to be manipulated and robbed for my own good, I will do my part to spread the love and joy. These brave hypocrites who haven't the courage to just ban the awful product for the good of kittens and puppies and children but cry about the size of their take, my love knows no bounds.
I am praying daily for strokes and heart attacks. These people deserve the very best, a lingering health issue, maybe even "smoking related disease" a really sweet stroke, and maybe a last minute epiphany, maybe wow what have I done, why did I draw out the misery and milk people for every last dime, I really am a sociopath, why oh why and then the sweet embrace of death.
Tobacco Free Kids and the various non-profits who eagerly release the most Orwellian creepy propaganda and will never ever stop because public health advocacy, thanks to pharmaceuticals and non-profit rings make it so damn profitable and scapegoating and denormalisation is so fun, yeah they deserve to start dropping like flies. Because my compassion is real and it's genuine, and I hope that each and every one of these wonderful warm human beings are rewarded with the miserable end that they so richly deserve. World class hypocrisy and sociopathy really deserves to be rewarded.
I have it on pretty good authority that the founding fathers who have been so mythologized already would be 100% in support of tax avoidance because they believed in free markets. The only one of those that actually seems to function is the black market. And that watering the tree of liberty, I wonder what that was all about, it must have been consent of the governed to render unto Ceaser basically every they've got and whatever they have left on the credit cards.
WA state, you are dead to me. Thanks for the rape, I love every minute of it.

Adults, like myself, have also had their favorite cigarettes "snuffed" out.
Since when do older folks not have the right to enjoy vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate?
It is a scandal that the government can exert so much power over its citizens.
The statistics they used here:
"The network estimated that 3,500 children a day pick up their first cigarette and 1,000 of them become addicted smokers."
Had nothing to do with flavored cigarettes.
I am saddened by the lack of a public outcry against this horrible act.
I am an adult, I have the right to smoke cigarettes, flavored or not.
Arielof WA11:25AM March 11, 2010
I'm 19 now and never smoked before turning 18. I also didn't know flavored cigarettes even existed until I heard they were being banned. I wasn't interested in smoking them either until it became illegal. If they're thinking about "the kids", why didn't they remember the forbidden factor? If it's illegal, if you can't find it, kids will want it even more.
Furthermore, it is incredibly obvious that this kind of selective banning is political. The major American brands didn't have a large market for flavored cigarettes (except menthol, which is why it's still around) so why should they care if they were banned? However, a foreign brand like Djarum, which seems pretty popular with clove smokers, is now even more expensive to buy. A carton costs $18 to ship to the US! That's assuming they'd get past the government, which isn't a guarentee.

It's not about kids' health or well-being. Politics is not about caring. It's about making appearances, maintaining the stat quo, and the pursuit of power. If they really gave a damn about the children, they would've made all tobacco illegal and not have passed this Malboro Monopoly Act crap. You know they were actually going to include menthol originally, right? But Phillip Morris(biggest distributor of menthol cigs worldwide) threatened to withdraw their support of the bill, so they left menthol out of it. In my book, you lose all credibility when you allow a tobacco company to have the final say in the implementation of an anti smoking bill! They want to give the appearance that they are doing something. The govt's cozy relationship with Phillip Morris is like the same one it has with the Pharmaceutical industry, allowing them to peddle countless controlled substances for seemingly made-up conditions, all with their own laundry list of side-effects, while at the same time locking non-violent offenders up for marijuana possession. Restless legs syndrome? Rubbish! Furthermore, growing up, slmost everyone I knew smoked Newports. I didn't know what a clove was until I met the woman who would become my wife of two years. Maybe kids and younger people were beginning to gravitate more toward more trendy, flavorful cigs, but they'll just find something else if they can't get the cloves. They know this. If you've read this forum long enough, you've seen the point made about alcohol made at least once on here. I won't wear it out, but, excellent point.

Im 18, I started smoking when i was 13. i started with Marlboro Reds and thats all i've smoked since. A big part of my friends that started smoking with me started with Reds. Down in Nebraska we start strong and finish strong

I agree 100% with Vee. How does it make any sense if our government bands flavored cigarettes but not unflavored? IT IS STILL A CIGARETTE and children shouldn't be sold to/smoking no matter what it looks like. This is an invasion of privacy and depleting our freedom. As adults, we should be free to smoke what we want and not be punished because "flavored cigarettes are more appealing to the young". What about flavored alcohol? Bud Light Lime, 99 Bananas, Raspberry Vodka, etc??? What is next Obama? Like Vee said, "Crack is crack" and it's illegal no matter how it looks.
