Garamendi Reaffirms Support for Single-Payer Healthcare by Backing Universal Medicare Bill at Rally
California Political Desk April 08, 2009 SACRAMENTO - Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, California´s first elected insurance commissioner and a long-time advocate for single-payer health care, spoke at a rally this week to express his strong support for a universal health insurance – HR 676- by Democratic Michigan Congressman John Conyers.
"I know a little bit about the insurance companies. I was your insurance commissioner for eight years," said Lieutenant Governor Garamendi, a former Deputy Director of the Interior under President Bill Clinton. "I know they have but one purpose, and that´s the bottom line: profit. As long as they are in this game, America will continue to be ripped off. And it´s time for us to end that with a single-payer universal health care program, and HR 676 is a way to get it done."
The United States National Health Care Act would create a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that improves and expands the already existing Medicare. It would ensure that all Americans have access to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless of their employment, income or health care status.
"Forty-one years ago, America figured out how to solve this problem. 41 years ago America created a single-payer universally available health care system that covers everyone who is over 65," Garamendi added. "That policy allows you to choose your own doctor wherever they may be. That policy allows you to have a comprehensive benefit package. We know how to do this America. All we need to do is take the 65; erase it; write in zero; and send your premiums into the Medicare office. Now that´s change we can believe in."
If Obama doesn't want to look at HR 676, and if the Media doesn't want to look at HR 676, I say we paint every billboard from California to New York in big block letters that say, "YouTube HR 676." Get the word out people.

The ability to stimulate immune function would be of paramount importance in defeating all infectious disorders, among them AIDS,resistant tuberculosis, malaria, MRSA, hospital-acquired infections, Salmonella, influenza, pandemic influenza, and sepsis. It would be essential for primary immunodeficiency disorders, bioterrorism, and cancer.
Widely proclaimed to be unavailable, immunostimulation has been available since 1981, but suppressed by hundreds of individuals and institutions. In "Against Method" Paul Feyertabend noted that suppressing a paradigm in preference to one politically favored could permanently damage society. Financial conflicts of interest among medical school professors have been much in the news, but the non-financial are far more detructive. In the latter, a person or institution is so committed to a theory or particular world view, that he will not admit failure, and accept a valid newcomer. Max Planck noted that the guardians of paradigm failures may first have to die, before a new generation, not imbued with such prejudice, takes over. Feyerabend felt that political intervention might be the only recourse. In 1981, I published the first of nine reviews on the immunostimulating and antimicrobial properties of lithium and antidepressants, their suppression bearing out the insights of Planck and Feyerabend.

It has been well over twenty years since the information campaign got started to educate and warn people about the dangers of HIV/AIDS. There is still a much needed area of activity due to the excess of mis-information and the lack of valuable information. Their are too many wrongly held preconceived notions about who is likely to contract HIV and how it is transmitted. For example, I think it would be surprising for some to know that 70% of women who contract HIV or minorities who acquired the virus via Heterosexual Contact. The two salient points of that comment are a) Heterosexual Contact and b) Minorities. Half of all new aids cases are reported by Blacks and Latinos. It is also the number one killer for Blacks aged 35-44.
