every cardiac surgeon should explain to the patient and family members what should they expect after heart surgery. surgeons just want to cut the people and get money

i recently underwent a valve replacment heart surgery. Nobody ever mentioned any depression associated with the surgery. I am alone in a large home with my cat for company. I had terrible anxiet attacks and did take Adafan to settle down. However looking at all those other people's similar problems i feel that psychiatric treatment is very important to every patients. It is very hard not to diive for awhile and depend on the generosity of others to go to appointments ec. I had hoped that some people would stop around to talk even for a short time. They sent cards which are nice but useless in the weeks you are home alone. it is hard to get along i have found without being depressed. The fear of the doctor's visits are real. I am afraid of test results ,etc.

My boyfriend had quadruple bypass surgery 1 week ago today, Upon his release, he went home to his baby daughter's for recuperation. I have not heard from him since. Is this normal or is she purposely keeping him away from me? He is white, I am black. His entire family is prejudiced and told me I would never be welcomed or accepted. We were living together before the surgery. While he was in surgery, his oldest son and daughter-in-law put me out of his home. What should I do? I love him dearly, and he loved me too. His phone goes directly to voice mail, and I do not know what to think. I would never be allowed to the daughter's home to see him. Is he okay< or are they purposely having him avoid me? Please help me. My clothes and car are still on his property as well.

hii patty it seems there are some problems with surgery yes but better than what it could have ended up like, i to had one bypass and a valve replaced on june 15th 2010. every thing was great as long as i didn't push it .. they say 2 or 3 % have strokes after surgery i have always been the 97% except this time i had a small stroke..... is a very strange thing to happen to person and i'm only 56. between the surgery and the small stroke it has changed who i am.... how i react to problems and to people... but is goood to be alive

i had a myectomy along with a mitral valve fixed on may 26. the surgery saved my life but i have been thru hell ever since. i have anxiety along with depression i still cannot eat or sleep. the drugs that they give me for all of this give me terrible anxiety and depression. i am very sensitive to drugs and all i want is to get back to some kind of normal life. this has been the worse time of my life and sometimes i want to give up. i dont understand how you can go into surgery a somewhat normal, well adjusted 49 year old woman and end up with mental problems. Has anyone else experienced this and if they have what did they do ?

I was completely unaware that I was a walking time bomb. I could have had a massive heart attack at any moment.

I bless the Doctors that discovered that I needed a quadruple by-pass and performed the procedure without a hitch. I realize that my life style may not be the same as it was because I don't want to go there again. I also realize that I am much healthier than I was before even if there are a few minor side effects.

I bless each day that I can wake up, go for a walk with my wife and continue to enjoy life.

May of 2010 i had 4 bypass and thought i was doing ok went home 1 day back in hospital next day for nausea. June 21 i had a heart attack and had to have 3 stents. I am still not up to par because my ins. does not pay for cardio rehab and I have been off work since the middle of May. Now I am having several problems, my foot sweels all the time and toes turn black and my chest bone is sticking out further on one side then the other. Sometimes I wish i had not had it done

triple by pass....three years...memory loss (short term) left side of chest will always have a numb/pressure sensation from all the nerve damage from surgery..it took me two full years to basically put it behind me...I feel pretty good but I give the meds the credit and not to make the mistake that I dont need them anymore.

I dont buy green bananas, or milk by the gallon. Yesterday was too long ago to be concern with and tomorrow is too far away to think about so I mostly deal with today. I should of died genetically three years ago but medical technology stopped that from happening, so I think of myself kind of like,"the walking dead" in a positive sense.....so my advise, know that its going to take sometime to readjust and enjoy the days given extra
