I was admitted for malignant hypertension last July at Ocean Springs Hospital in Mississippi. The admitting doctor was someone I knew. But his partner came in the next day, and he was out of control. He had a screaming, cursing hissy fit in my hospital room because there were records missing from my file (hardly my fault!) and because I refused to take a medication that was contraindicated for patients with Reynaud's Syndrome, which I have. I didn't really believe this guy was a doctor--I literally thought he was some lunatic impersonating a doctor. The hospital had no security at all, and anyone could go into any patient's room and do anything s/he liked to the patient. You need to know about security in the hospital (probably there is none) and who your doctor's partner is, in case s/he is someone you don't want to have treating you. My doctor actually sent me a certified letter dropping me as a patient after this traumatic visit by his enraged, lunatic partner. I never found out what this guy's problem was, but my doctor was afraid I would sue the practice, and he dropped me as a patient. I complained to the hospital (nothing happened) and to the MS Medical Licensing board (nothing happened).

Great, as a refresher course when one's going to be hospitalized, but wish there were other options beside heart. Much did not compute for a uterine prolapse surgery.

I am facing major surgery later this summer, and this article helped me understand what will be happening. I found it thorough and informative, yet easy to comprehend. Thank you!
