I've had a short term medical insurance policy so I would be covered during the 60 day waiting period of my employer plan.
You as an insured are responsible for reading the brochure and the Policy. Google short term medical insurance and all over it will say that "pre-existing conditions are not covered. Coverage is not continuous. Coverage is not renewable".
I'm so sick of the industry being blamed for dening claims because the insureds don't take the time to read the coverage they bought!
People put more reasearch time into what kind of cell phone to buy then their own health insurance! Maybe you should go without an Iphone or cable tv and then you'd have money to buy a good insurance plan and then I wont have to pay for it out of my taxes!!

There is a misstatement or perhaps misquote of Ms. Fish-Parcham in the article regarding HIPAA benefits. All U.S. short term major medical insurance policies do offer a Certificate of Creditable Coverage as provided under federal HIPAA law that allows the applicant to avoid the waiting period for coverage of pre-existing medical conditions otherwise required by a subsequent insurance plan. In my opinion, this is the single primary advantage of short term medical insurance over the less expensive limited benefit insurance plans that have otherwise become so popular today.

To learn much more about health insurance, there is a new book by Dr. Eva Mor- "Making the Golden Years Golden" with a lot of good advice -

GLENN BECK AND SEAN HANNITY ARE SCUM!
They are convincing vulnerable Americans to be against healthcare reform. I think Americans should determine why these monsters are so against reform. Maybe Americans should see what policies they AND THEIR FAMILY has. These 2 evil clowns are killing Americans!

I thought this quote was about right for the entire story. That could have been the headline. "Short-term plans do have a place and may be a good option for certain healthy people, experts say. College graduates, no longer able to get coverage on their parents' plans, may elect these to tide them over until a first job with benefits starts, for example; so too might folks who are waiting to be approved for a permanent major medical plan or those who have a new job lined up that requires a waiting period before group health insurance can begin."
I found short term medical insurance to be highly variable. However, I found a program through my alumni association and another at http://www.gradguard.com/medical which is also recommended by College Parents of America at www.collegeparents.org
