I had been taking Avandia for several years now. Has my MD just tried to soothe my concerns about the Avandia drug by prescribing Actos?
According to our Nurses' Drug book Actos has the same side effects as does the Avandia. In addition, it is more expensive than Avandia and may cause bladder cancer. I am a 78 year old male who is 6 feet tall and weigh 205 pounds. I exercise for 1 hour at a gym twice weekly for an hour. My only problem is that my belly has grown to a 46 inch waist. The rest of my body is small. I had been taking metformin but it caused kidney damage. I am a type 2 diabetic.
I watch what I eat, I garden, I walk and take vitamins.Yet I remain anemic.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may fit my circumstances?

I cannot understand how these type of problems keep slipping through. I was over on Xydo.com reading a bunch of articles re diabetes and came across this. Thanks for putting this out.

what a message if FDA sending this way! The mere fact that GSK hid (did not disclouse) some of incovenient results is already sufficient to penalize it i put the drug on hold.
I also belive that GSK, and other companies for that matter, should provide funds but not do the harm related research themselves- how can we trust them?
I wonder how many confilcts of interest of panel members were overuled.

It is All About the Money!!! I took Avandia from 6-03 to 1-06- While taking Avandia I lost my vision from 20/20 to 20/400. I had a Stint put in my Heart 3-06. I had Open Heart bypass surgery 8-07 & Balloone surgery on my heart 7-09. The F D A has been a Joke. G S K is ONLY concern about Profit, Money!! The Senators & Congressman are only worried about getting Big Bucks from Big Pharma to stay in office. Avandia has harmed so so many yet it is still on the market. Someone Please Help--

Sounds like the cardiologists wanting to keep it on the market are happy to benefit from the heart problems it causes. Read the article. They say it could be good as an alternative if the safer drug causes upset stomach. Are they joking?
