Health Buzz: Health Insurers Invest in Fast Food

Two things... every parent, child and school should be required to watch Food, Inc. Our obesity problem in this country would sharply decline as would our diabetes rate in children and our food borne illnesses. As far as the insurance companies investments in Burger King etc... we are feeding this garbage to our kids. On another note as parents absolutely should be present during ALL of our children's pediatrician appointments. I just finished watching the story of the doctor in Delaware that is accused - he video taped some of his actions- of raping over 100 children over the past 15 years. Where were the parents of these young children? One child was raped at 3 months old. I don't worry about a pediatrician harming my child physically I worry about what they are planning to talk about with my child. Every year I get snotty looks from the nurses at my child's well visit when I tell them I will be staying in the room for the entire visit. I don't kid myself that my kids are going to tell me everything but I know that as parents my husband and I pay close attention to our kids and we ask them what is happening in their lives - and in their friends lives. We know the parents of their friends, we know where they are going and we actually say no to some things too. Please do not be bullied into leaving the room when the doctor asks or tells you this is just normal procedure with a child 11 years old. I will continue to treat my children as children and as such they deserve the support and protection of their mother. That is my job and I take it very seriously. They will grow up soon enough - at 14, 13 and 11 I am not done with them yet and for that I am grateful...

dogismyth: I shouldn't get caught up in this. What is health insurance, if not a bet on the future health of the insured? If you want to ban companies from making bets on people's health, you'll have to ban health insurance, because that's essentially what it is. Even then, you'd have to ban people saving their money for possible future health problems, because what is that, if not a bet that they will, eventually, become unhealthy? That insurers can also bet on people being unhealthy keeps premiums down when people turn out to be, in fact, unhealthy.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School have discovered that eleven large companies that offer life, disability, or health insurance owned about $1.9 billion in stock in the five largest fast-food companies as of June 2009. Why would they invest in a sector that is notorious for promoting unhealthy eating [...]

Insurance companies have to keep their shareholders happy in order to stay in business. Integrity and principles don't come into play when it interferes with making obscene profits and huge bonuses.

I would be surprised if the aforementioned life insurance companies aren't also heavily invested in companies that manufacture weapons of mass destruction, the same weapons that enable our military to wage our government's illegal war of aggression in the Middle East.

Shun fast food! Shun insurance if you can! Shun that ill tempered neighbor woman that has bothered you for years especially now that you have learned that she is a "he"! Read the B.I.B.L.E. = Best Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Love Yahweh's earth (Psalm 24:1) and believe on His Son Yahshua. He is coming soon! HalleluYah!

TO DUH:

I guess your name says it all!

Next time you have a brainfart, try to do it somewhere else.

Its amazing that it all boils down to "betting" and "gambling" on human lives. If its not wars, medical testing, chemical genocide...its maintaining the population so they are sickly human beings. No one has any morals or ethics which is evident from the hideous response by DUH.

It's called hedging their bets. Either people continue to get fatter and less healthy, and the insurers make money off of the fast food sales, or people move towards healthier foods and insurers save money on insurance payouts. Nothing evil about it.

Since when were the insurers responsible for your health? Take some responsibility and quit finding moral outrage at every turn.

It seems all big companies invest their money against you, basically betting that if we give them enough money to advertise their non healthy food, they're not going to be smart enough to fall for it. With the million dollar marketing ads with the catchy songs and " you deserve a break today" , just allows people to believe they can sit on the couch after work and not move around til 8am the next day. This is so the insurers can ensure that people will need they in the future by making them ill long enough before they die to pay them billions in revenue.
