My husband was diagnosed Type 2 in January with 7.2% Of course his triglicorates, (sp), cholestrol , everything was out of wack. Portion control, slow carbs, and Vitamin b12 has dropped his sugar to 6.2% in 4 months, lost 30 pounds, and all his "stats" are close to normal. We both changed how we eat. Also the future of amputation, losing organs due to diabetes makes that soda, rice potato not very inviting. We have taken all added sugars out, and do not do diabetic foods. We don't miss it, and even our grandson who volunteered to go on same diet, spit out an oreo cookie. He said it taste like sugar and salt. Diabeties should be a wake up call to all to eat healthier, stay within your carb limits, stay alive. fitday.com has helped me track his carb intake, and so have all the diabetic sites that offer great recipes. Those with high numbers, give up the sugars, the french fries, the pizza, and watch it come down. Husband has stabilized with a high number of 125 now instead of of over 200. Good luck to all

I've noticed that my blood pressure and blood sugar readings vary widely depending on circumstances. I usually test several times within seconds and still get readings that vary a lot -- e.g., 115/75, 130/25; 150 and 170. Doctors and nurses never take more than one reading, unless, maybe, you're in the ER. The great mystery I've been unable to get an answer to is whether blood pressure readings in somewhat stressful situations, like at the doctor's office, are a better indicator of where you stand than readings in calm environments. Articles, like this one, don't ever mention these variabilities.

I started a vegan diet 6 weeks ago based on neal barnard to treat "prediabetes" and lower cholesterol; bp went from 132 to 110 in about 4 weeks and is now at 108. Feel good--not dizzy but relaxed. Not strict diet but no dairy and fish or chicken about 2x week; lots of fruits, vegs, nuts, beans and grains yet blood sugar is lower in am than before. trigly are lower but total cholesterol is still about the same. Also lost a few pounds. Will keep it up for a few more months. I agree--it's worth a try.

Use a number of powerful natural substances to slow or avoid blood sugar spike. They include chromium, vernadium, gymester sylvester, banana leaf extract, bitter tea or lemon, vinegar, to name a few. You may find these in combination in health food stores.

It's so simple...just adopt a vegan lifestyle. Vegans do NOT GET DIABETES, nor do they have heart disease issues. Exercise is also key... Read the many studies on this at www.pcrm.org

Quit pushing carbs on diabetics. FAT is the macronutrient that best keeps blood sugar stable, but continues to be demonized with NO LONG TERM STUDY on it to back it up. This advice does more harm than good, unless of course you are a company that makes statins.
