Chloramphenicol works by preventing bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers.

I'm glad politicians and government agencies know more than my doctor and pharmacist. I have been on Avandia for 10 years. Last A1C 5.9. When diabetes first detected blood sugar level was 495, today 102. Doctor told me I would have had major problems had I not reduced blood sugar level. Today overall health is good.

I got tinnitus by taking Avandia for 2-1/2 weeks in March 2006. When I started the Avandia program, my hearing was fine. After about a week I started hearing hissing or whistling in my ears. I assumed that it was a temporary side effect. Then, a week later, it suddenly dawned on me, "What if this isn't temporary?" I immediately went off the Avandia, and the tinnitus never went away. I now hear hissing and whistling and clicking in my ears. Sometimes it is maddening. The tinnitus threw me into a depression for three years. The worst times are when I'm trying to fall asleep. There have been times when the tinnitus was louder than jet engines flying overhead, although sometimes it gets quieter and I don't notice it. Avandia is a dangerous drug -- stay away from it. It can do more to you than just give you heart attacks.

A Senate report issued in late February has linked the use of Avandia to heart attacks. It sounds like you may have been one of those victims. While the drug may certainly have a valid use in treating diabetes, other alternative drugs like Actos have shown lower risk of heart attacks and the FDA's role in making the public aware of any danger Avandia could pose is questionable at best. I've used Avandia for 10 plus years. I am just finishing recuperating from a near fatal heat attack at age 53. I certainly hope that the Avandia was not a major contributor to my heat problems. I no longer use Avandia. Draw your own conclusion. I drew mine.

Physicians and researchers do the best they can with the present state of medical knowledge. The truth is that someday, if the human race survives global warming, its frightful ignorance, and its propensity for war, the state of medicine today will seem as poor as that of the Middle Ages seems to us now. People will think, "how could they not realize that cancer is caused by..." and "what made them even consider using something as ineffective as... to treat..."
Currently, dealing with cancer, heart disease, circulatory disorders, and so much more is just a matter of guesswork using medicines that barely have therapeutic effects and come with many unwanted side effects.
Yet even our primitive medicine is so necessary that insurance and pharmaceutical companies can make enormous profits, manipulate what treatments are made available, and control doctors' decisions and income, and yet we let them do it. We are that dependent on our treatments, in spite of the primitiveness of many of them.
Someday science, education, spiritual growth, and critical thinking may take over from ignorant opinion and greed as the fundamental principles of society. If we survive long enough, that is.

It is All About the Money!!! I took Avandia from 6-03 to 1-06- While taking Avandia I lost my vision from 20/20 to 20/400. I had a Stint put in my Heart 3-06. I had Open Heart bypass surgery 8-07 & Balloone surgery on my heart 7-09.The F D A has been a Joke. G S K is ONLY concern about Profit, Money!! Avandia has harmed so so many yet it is still on the market.
A report by the two senators claims Glaxo knew Avandia could cause heart damage several years before a study documented the risk and that the pharmaceutical company pressed doctors to retract warnings about side effects
