What a horrible story. Why didn't she try cannabis, it cures cancer?

A very bright and engaged person. I'm so sorry she's passed on.

Very Insightful but totally sad. May God keep watching over your soul, and my deepest prayers to your love ones especially your husband who stood by you during these times.

I've been wondering what "died of complications" means? Did the chemo kill her? Did she die of a bowel obstruction? Did she catch something because her immune system failed? How I which the media would report on Integrative Health strategies to compliment standard of care, specifically high quality nutritional supplements to build up ones immune system. Go to pubmed.org and you will see much science on curcumins, plant polysaccharides (mannose from aloe, fucose from wakame) and how they are effective against cancer and are safe!!. Doctors mainly recommend chemo, radiation or surgery but there is so much more they could recommend to help their patients. If they did, maybe there wouldn't be as many "died of complications" reports.

My Mom Julie Fischer was diagnosed with GBM in June of 2009 and we lost her in December 2010. I'm pleased to read about the progress that is being made in Brain Cancer treatments. Nothing will ever bring her back, but maybe someone else will not have to suffer because of the reserch that these wonderful doctors are doing. Miss You Mommy!

Rest in Peace, Bernadine Healy. You have fought well, and you will be missed by those who loved you and knew you best.

I too have an odd form of oligodendroglioma. Alas, I don't have the coveted gene deletions that make it responsive to treatment that she spoke of. So far I have had surgery and that is all, so I am not experiencing the dreaded side effects of chemotherapy. Other than that, her words hit home so much. I will definitely be getting her book.
