My posting is not about defending Wakefield at all.

It is about:

1) sharing our sad and tragic personal experiences of the MMR with those who might be in a dilemma about having their children vaccinated.

2) expressing my view that powerful vested corporate interests are doing their collective best to ensure no successful litigation is ever brought against them; given their resources it would be relatively easy for them to fund a world wide search for families like ours and build a sufficient sized scientific sample to have researched by an independent institute in order to prove or disprove the claims once and for all.

3) warning you that if your child does become an unfortunate statistic do not think that the world will be rushing through your front door to help you out: my statement regarding the medical insurance corporate as example.

Even if you believe that vaccines are a causal reason for autism (which has never been shown), Wakefield's study was a fraud. He manipulated data that wasn't there. I have no doubt that he believed what he concluded in his study, but it does not condone what he did. He falsified data. His study was a fraud. End of story.

Our child had a severe reaction to the MMR vaccine within hours and is now a sunlight sensitive epileptic i.e. she cannot be out in the sunlight without dark sunglasses and even that is no guarantee. So she lives mostly indoors, with the blinds drawn to darken the house as much as possible, going out at night only. All the defensive gumff about the vaccines not being the cause of many of these side effects is just that - defensive gumff! I am a graduate from an engineering faculty. Mathematics and the application thereof was the main component of my university education - the scientific approach the cornerstone of it all. I have no doubt in my mind that the MMR is the cause of our child's severe disability. The coincidence was just too much for my scientific training. So to all parents out there in the "should we or should we not" dilemma think very carefully before you do. The emotional and economic consequences of a severe disability in your child are massive and life long and as parents you will have to shoulder most of this on your own. Some assistance from some well meaning but mostly under funded government department and disability stickers for your car when you go to shopping malls. Prepare for some bitter disappointments. We took out medical insurance with a prestigious corporate in South Africa. Our child had a fit going to school and smashed her teeth on steps. The only way to deal with this was via a full operation with a general anaesthetic: she cannot have bright lights in her face! However as this was deemed dentistry the corporate paid nothing as it was not covered! As far as we know the specific light sensitivity that our child has is extremely rare. Probably the only one in this country of 50 million! Even that did not dissuade the medical panel that rejected our claim. Disappointment would be an under statement to express our feelings. But that is what you could face when your family becomes a vaccine statistic.

To Momwoman: you clearly don’t know anything about autism, read a book then comment on the eye stares

To Sharon: if only more people were as educated as you we would not have stupid comments like "The link between vaccines and autism has been broken (thank god). "

Yeah because the government cant fake studies or produce false hospital reports, only doctors.... why only 5 out of 12, what type of developmental problems did those 5 had, it surely was not autism otherwise it would been in the medical records, and what about the other 7 we just dismiss them as statistical error in vaccination and what about the 5 other countries ? this is too fishy for me. You have to watch some of the portents whos lives where totally destroyed when their totally normal children developed serious complications after the government vaccines’...sheeple population control.

Pardon me. Looking my child in the eyes for an hour and telling him how much I love him?

Are you nuts?

Maybe my child has a life, or wants to have a life. Sure, I tell my kid I love him, but it doesn't take an hour. It happens when I spend time, doing things like - uh - BOWLING, to say, hey, I enjoy spending time with you. I love you.

Spending an hour looking into a kid's eyes sounds creepy and invasive. How do yu get any child to sit still for that? Super glue?

Is this guy a pedophile?

The lack of vaccinations in California has created a mini epidemic of diseases. Overall this is not surprising in a state that grows marijuana for "medical use". People will still believe in the sudo science of the study for as long as it supports their personal beliefs. For that reason alone, this will still be a story for years to come.

"the only time I got the flu was when I got the flu vaccine..." at least that what I hear from every single person OTHER than those pushing the flu shot. My own daughter got the flu this year and she is the only one in our family who received the flu shot. I know, the flu shot can't give you the flu...but it does something that weakens the immune system. The fact that the German government gave one type of vaccine to the German people and a different vaccine to their Military and Government leaders should make everyone put up a yellow flag of caution.

Of course the producers of the 3-in-1 vaccines, the politicians they have in their pockets and the "Doctors" that receive funding from these sources oppose Dr. Andrew Wakefield's findings. Remember the Phen Phen phenomenon? Same deal here.
