Pot Might Blunt Damage of Binge Drinking

Its hard to comment with all the ignorance, but I will (and may digress in the process). THC does not cause nausea it relieves it. I used to be a hard partier and binge drinker in college, and I've been smoking marijaua during that whole time and continue to do so. I am graduating with honors, I have a number of research pieces published, and I have done all of this stoned. Marijuana is not a bad thing, but like any medicine (loosely using this term) it should be taken in responsible quantities. I could go on all day, but ill end with this... if you have never tried it then you do not have the capacity to comment. Its not like we are talking about some manmade drug (like meth). We are talking about an herbal plant. Stop spouting off about protecting our children. This stuff is not meant for children (in my opinion). But don't criminalize us. We are law abiding citizens (aside from the pot thing) and just want to live in peace. So you can take your ill-informed information and kick rocks :) (sorry the last part isn't as professional, but us stoners like to enjoy like, not demonize it).

Is it possible you misunderstood the message of the study? As a certified health teacher and parent, I think it is despicably irresponsible of you to print, "This study suggests that not only is marijuana safer than alcohol, it may actually protect against some of the damage that booze causes," Steve Fox, director of state campaigns for the Marijuana Policy Project, said in a news release from the project. If this organization is in favor of legalizing MJ, this is comment is terribly skewed. The problem with people who get high and/or drunk is that the drugs affect their decision-making skills, and their perception of reality.

There is NO that marijuana is in any way "safe." Study after study is revealing the damage that THC does to the brain, heart, lungs, throat, esophagas, mouth, lips, especially in younger people. Moreover, the neurological damage from alcohol is much worse for adolescents than it is for adults due to the fact that most areas of the teenage brain are still developing. In fact, the jury is still out on whether alcohol is really safe for anyone (studies have linked moderate alcohol use to lower LDL levels, but increased cancer risk.)

In addition, MJ is an antiemitic, which is one reason why it has been used with cancer patients undergoing intensive chemotherapy, the side effect of which can be extreme nausea. You may be aware that one of the ways the human body protects itself from alcohol overdose is via the vomit reflex. When a person smokes MJ, this reflex is dulled, and the risk of alohol poisoning, coma and/or death is drastically increased. This can happen in less than an hour if too much alcohol is taken in too fast (the human liver can only metabolize 0.5-1 oz of alcohol per hour.

I think this study points out that we need to do more research on marijuana and it's effects. I also think we need to change the message we give to kids in this country about alcohol. By making it so forbidden it's also made very attractive. Once kids start drinking they are more likely to binge and not know when to stop. Neither smoking pot nor drinking alcohol is particularly healthy but kids need to be taught that if they engage in these behaviors, how they can reduce their risk of permanent brain damage, death or endagering others by being more responsible when using theese drugs.
