While patient consent is not required for direct exchange among clinicians, certain mental health records and other sensitive data points in health records are "isolated," according to Paoletti said. Legally, these items cannot be shared without consent. "That's allowing a patient to have a voice, allowing a patient to have a say in this," Paoletti said.
