It began with just a few stands in 1976, and now, about 140 regional farmers, fishermen and bakers travel to the city four days a week, year round. During the busiest seasons, the market serves more than 250,000 customers a week – offering more than 1,000 varieties of fruits and veggies. Celebrity chefs often stop by to host cooking demos, and school tours teach local kids about healthy eating.
