This project is a great excuse (not that you need one) to reach out to relatives. Talk to Mom, Dad and siblings first, and then reach out to grandparents, aunts and uncles. Ask about what diseases they may have and at what age they were diagnosed. Also (gently) discuss any possible mental health disorders and past or current substance abuse. It’s not the cheeriest conversation, but this information can be life-saving.
