Of course doctors and midwives need to offer additional resources to make women at term more comfortable! Right now, all they are willing to offer is the patronizing, "Just be patient, baby will come when it's ready" line. Even in the case of extended prodromal labor (try nine days days with contractions and multiple cases of bloody show), many care givers won't even do a membrane strip a day before 40 weeks unless the health of the fetus is at risk. The health of the mother (mental or physical) means little to nothing, we're just incubators.
