How very sad. Why not use their own mother's milk. It was made to do the same and better. It actually has other growth hormones and many other factors that not only protect the intestinal lining, but also, help it to mature (make it less permeable to ivasion by bacteria, viruses and fungi. Not only that, the mother-infant bond is encouraged as mother provides her milk to her tiny baby. She feels like she has a little control of an otherwise out of control situation and she is helping her baby grow and get well.
It's interesting that their studhy did not include infants given mother's milk. It has already been proven to protect the tiniest infants from NEC, one of the most common killers of premature infants.
