Health Tip: Putting Baby to Bed

Sleeping on the back decreases Slow Save Sleep (Stage 3 and Stage 4 NREM sleep combined). Slow Wave Sleep (AKA Deep Sleep) is when infants die of SIDS. It's also when temporary memories are "downloaded" from the Hippocampus to the Neocortex. REM sleep is when the neocortex reorganizes or "Defrags" itself. Basically, there's nothing to defrag during REM sleep if infants aren't able to "download" anything to the Neocortex if they get little to no Slow Wave Sleep. It's sad that a well meaning health campaign has had the unexpected result of causing the autism epidemic.
