I'm a suffer, too. So, I made an insomnia helper MP3. (totally free). Works for me so I thought I'd share. Go to> http:\\Happyfatman

Get> Johannes Brahms Lullaby, plays ~25 minutes, gradually slows & softens to silence.

Best remedy for insomnia for me is a cup of hot chocolate made with milk and add a couple of marshmallows. Eat with plain, butterless French or Italian bread (NOT SOURDOUGH). Be sure to dunk the bread in the chocolate. Works everytime.

Consider tryptophan in the milk. Warmth of the beverage. Sugar lets one sleep. Bread is a basic need and goes with the sweet chocolate. Good, comfortable feeling of satisfaction.

One will sleep after doing this.

As already stated, the article has very good advice. As a hypnotist, I'd add hypnosis/self-hypnosis to the list since normal insomnia is extremely easy to overcome with just a very simple techniques that are easily taught.

In Michael's case, on top of the information already mentioned, we have to be aware also of the extreme pain he was in after the Pepsi commercial when he caught on fire. Those wounds were deep and the pain was constant. That's another piece of his puzzle that people need to keep in mind

I found the article insightful, and good advice, except when it came to

the pharmaceutical aspect. I've used Valerian root, whenever i've wanted a nice

natural sleep, as well as melatonin. They don't leave that clouded head feeling you get

from the Tylenol PM or other mentioned OTC drugs.

Definitely go herbal in that respect was a real improvement.

I heard that Michael Jackson wasn't eating well particularly around the time all the child molestation charges surfaced, which actually has been over years. Certainly, not getting sources of magnesium and calcium and having chemical imbalances -- beyond any drug problems he may have had -- was significant. I read somewhere, perhaps it was in the Balch book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, that alcoholics have serious vitamin deficiencies, perhaps Vitamin B.

Why isn't the importance of calcium discussed? I've known countless friends and acquaintances taking insomnia, anti-anxiety and other psych meds as a supposed result of sleep issues who readily concede they've gone decades without any significant source of calcium. I noticed the difference when I moved to NY from Florida. I was not getting enough calcium and Vitamin D, and I'm sleeping easily now since focusing on getting more calcium in my diet. And given that so many people are lactose intolerant or have other issues related to dairy consumption, I'm pretty certain the majority are not finding new sources of calcium. I've heard that coffee, for example, leaches calcium from your bones so, again, wouldn't a focus on calcium consumption impact this problem. I understand magnesium can also significantly impact sleep.

This is good general advice, but irrelevant to Michael's situation. I'm sure he tried everything he could before coming to the conclusion that nothing else would work. He suffered from Lupus and countless debilitating disorders associated with it, leading to tons of painkillers and eventually lots of medication just to combat side-effects. We can't even imagine what a concoction like that would do to your system when it comes to sleeping. This is on top of years of crazy schedules - waking up at 4am for a flight or to guest on a show, coming home wired after late night concerts or rehearsals and constant jet lag. This was not an everyday case of insomnia.

I wonder how many times this identical advice will be recycled. I've lost count of how many places I've read it. This is why I don't buy magazines any more.
