Several years ago Heliobacter Pylori was identified as the primary agent in sudden infant death syndrome. Why has that information not disseminated to the public? Why instead is this outdated and wrong information about preventing SIDS by putting your baby to sleep on his back still circulating?

You can protect your baby from SIDS by protecting him from your slobbering relatives. Never allow anyone to kiss your baby on the mouth! Never allow anyone to kiss your baby on the hands or fists. Wash your baby's hands and objects she puts in her mouth frequently. Don't allow other people to touch your baby's hands at all, especially other children. During the first year of his life, don't leave your baby in places like church nurseries or large day care centers where he will potentially be exposed to other people's saliva.

Forget this silliness about sleeping on the back. Doctors used to recommend putting babies to sleep on their stomachs with their head to the side in case they spit up, so that they would not aspirate the vomit into their lungs. Everybody knows that babies do, in fact, spit up frequently. You can find that advice in the older child care books, and it still makes perfect sense. H. pylori is a killer, and so is aspiration pneumonia.

What do you think is happening? Margaret Hamburg was just appointed by Obama and she brought in Joshua Sharfstein. Steve Gutman retired last year after 17 years in the FDA and is now teaching at the Unversity of Central Florida. Frank Torri left the FDA this year and Daniel Shultz just resigned last week and was replaced by Jeffrey Shuren. There is a huge overhaul going on in the FDA.

More money, time and effort needs put into adult stem cell research. Look at the progress made everyday. We are so close to harnessing what could be the greatest discovery in the history of mankind. How much money could be saved if we were to cure Alzheimers or Parkinson. Enough to pay for health reform ten times over. We need to lite a fire under the FDA. The FDA is so slow, no wonder we are so far behind the rest of the world in health care. The FDA needs a overhaul.
