I am a fifteen-year-old girl and I've had insomnia problems for almost two years. I think the reason behind my insomnia is my depression which has been getting progressively worse. Some nights I'll wake up and I can't breath. In fifth and fourth grade every other night I would have panic attacks over stupid things. My parents don't really understand or know everything. I haven't every taken any medication for insomnia or depression including sleeping pills or melatonin. I've been learning to go on w/ my day w/ three hours of sleep or less. It's not working. Help!

I have insomnia, and need to find out why

I used to drink 6 large cups of coffee throughout the day and wondered why I had insomnia for months. I cut back and it helped out a lot! I know it's counter-intuitive not to drink coffee when you're tired, but I'd say drink it only in the morning and as minimally as you can, start weaning yourself off. Stop drinking coffee by 3 though. I'm now down to 2 cups a day and I fall asleep much easier.

Sweet dreams!

the doctors are drug happy

they will keep prescribing drugs instead of finding the real problem thats causing the insomnia

Try acupuncture to improve circullation and readjust your body to more healthy energy and sleep cycles. A little chinese herbal pill called "Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan" is herbal and gentle unlike western pharmaceutical drugs that have long term side effects or dependency. It improves mood and liver. Acupuncture makes me feel refreshed and clear thinking. Poor sleep is a symptom of another problem. Treat the cause not the symptom when the underlying root cause is the bigger problem. I'm drug free and feel great! As we get old, try acupuncture and diet not drugs as the way to longevity.
