Stop Smoking: Secrets of Successful Quitters

I quit smoking over 2 years ago after a 1 pack 15 year habit and the suggestion that unassisted cold turkey quitting does not work is ridiculous. I know dozens of people who quit CT years before we had any pills or gum or candy (my own Dad stopped in the ealy 1970's after a 40 year 1.5 pack a day habit. Firstly, to all those using some form of nicotine providing alternative, you have NOT quit. You have merely changed the dlivery method, because quitting means not allowing nicotine into your body at all. Secondly, the idea of having to take Champix or Zyban for extended periods of time, perhaps the rest of your life, is not a very appealing thought to many people since these also have side-effects. Replacing nicotine with an anti-depressant, etc... is not the solution. Will power, whilst not the easy way, is ultimately the only way as no amount of pills can stop the nicotine thrills if you do not have the will power to simply NOT light up. It really is a case of mind over matter and if you do not mind then it will not matter. Finally, I say to the author of this article (Sarah Baldauf) - and I apologize if I am wrong - unless you have smoked yourself, you have no idea what it means to smoke and quit.

when our doc asked us why we were not going to smoke anymore, my husband and i looked at each other and realised the only reason was the cost offended us.

turns out, it was reason enough. actually, if the government imposes sin taxes on that which it does not want us to have, they generate income and we quit doing whatever it is we do that we shouldn't be doing.

like putting a sin tax on a 1200 calorie burger and leaving the sin tax off the 440 calorie salad or something like that.

make it unaffordable and people will stop using it. put it in the form of a tax and then the government can stop screaming for more money. we'll be healthier and maybe we'll pay less in taxes.

see how easy that was? :)

After 40 years of smoking,I have succeeded in breaking the habit for four months..............to the LOUD applause of everybody. Now, though, I find myself slipping back with one or 2 a day. I really don't enjoy them, but am near helpless to....just have one. It scares the hell out of me because for multiple times I have slipped slowly, or rapidly!!, back to the full habit. Any advice out there?
